I am a licensed clinical psychologist who works with adults and older adolescents in my private practice office in New Haven, CT. People come to me looking for help for different reasons, perhaps a life crisis, sometimes a sense of depression or deadness that has been around a long time. I work from a primarily psychodynamic orientation, although the work I do may include mindfulness, symptom relief techniques or other treatment modalities. Sometimes, there are big issues to grapple with, but often by focusing on seemingly small blocks, we can loosen the process of growth and open up the experience of being alive to one's own life.
There are many ways people feel stuck and lost in their lives, with symptoms of depression, anxiety, work blocks, relationship difficulties or just a sense of deadness. I am very interested in the role of creativity, and the ways people develop and foster complexity and wholeness. I have done extensive work with issues of trauma, understand the demands of corporate and academic life, as well as developmental life phases and challenges.
Good psychotherapy should relieve suffering and symptoms. Therapy can help us survive impasse and pain, but more than mere survival is possible. I believe that people can change and that emotional suffering can be transformed. Our experience of breaking apart can be the ground for something new, not only an injury to get through. An important aspect of healing is coming to understand one's values, who you want to be, and what is most important to you. Personally, I value empathy and kindness and believe that these capacities underlie close and rewarding relationships.
